Volvo Finds Performance and Fuel Efficiency with Hybrid V60

Starting next year, Volvo fans will see big change in the European EV market with the new V60 Plug-in Hybrid. A brainchild of the Volvo/Vattenfall collaboration, the new model will display a rare combination of performance and fuel-efficiency. Though the V60 hybrid won't be making its way to the U.S. anytime soon, Jaffarian Volvo is simply happy to know that the brand we trust the most is headed in the right direction.

Co-operation between professionals like auto expert Volvo and energy expert Vattenfall is what really makes the new EV project unique. With so many innovative, forward-thinking minds in the mix, the joint venture was able to produce a hybrid vehicle with a total operating range of over 745 miles and a range of 31 miles when running on electric alone. The new V60 is powered by a 2.4-liter five-cylinder diesel engine and electric motor which produces 281-hp and 472 lb/ft of torque. And while the hybrid may be a bit pricier than other models, a combined 124 mpg fuel economy is sure to make up for it.

Volvo decided to take on production of the V60 Plug-in Hybrid in order to create a satisfying eco-friendly option for a sometimes hybrid skeptical audience. However, the automaker also had a larger goal in mind. Stefan Jacoby, Volvo President and CEO, comments on this goal, "This project shows how co-operation between experts in different areas brings us closer to the transition from individually carbon dioxide-lean products to a climate-smart lifestyle."1

In tandem with production of the V60, Volvo has been working on development of an all-electric variant of the Volvo C30. As the automaker releases more details about these two projects and others, Jaffarian Volvo promises to let you know.
