Volvo is Number One in Reducing Carbon Emissions

Automakers can help reduce our environmental impact by doing anything from utilizing sustainable practices, to creating green facilities, to producing more electric vehicles. No matter what the company's initiatives may be, Jaffarian Volvo guarantees that consumers, dealerships and competitors alike are watching carefully. That's a lot of pressure. Fortunately, Volvo has no need to break a sweat. The automaker was just voted number one in CO2 reduction by the European Federation for Transport and Environment (T&E).
Every year, T&E takes a look at the percentage by which European automobile manufacturers reduce their own carbon emissions and fuel consumption. Top contenders over the past year or so have averaged between two and six percent. Largely due to the company's "DRIVe towards zero" banner, Volvo has surpassed all others with an impressive nine percent.
"We are delighted and very proud of this result. We are following our ambitious plan which puts the spotlight on cutting carbon dioxide emissions,"1 said Stefan Jacoby, President and CEO of the Volvo Car Corporation.
Ambitious is a good word to describe the Volvo plan, as achieving zero CO2 emissions is an extremely daunting task. But company officials have already devised a goal to "come down to an average of 95 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer across total car sales in 2020."2 And they hope to do this within the next eight or nine years. Models such as the V50 DRIVe and V70 DRIVe are currently gaining popularity and reducing emissions at impressive rates. Volvo also plans to produce more electrified models with different levels of hybridization and create alternative fuels.
